BBB receives thousands of complaints

The Better Business Bureau is receiving thousands of complaints from people who have naively purchased multi-year magazine subscriptions, usually from corrupt telemarketers.

In other cases, door-to-door magazine salespeople can be just as professional, selling people several magazine subscriptions all at once, against their knowing.

This is a how-to-guide on handling door-to-door magazine sellers by BBB (Better Business Bureau).

Be aware of high-pressure sales strategy -Some sellers will put pressure on you to close deals instantly, pay no attention, when you say you're not interested.

Stand strong - If you do permit a salesperson inside and make your mind up that you're not interested in making a purchase, say so, and then simply ask them to go away.

Verify the individual and the company - If you’re interested in buying from a door-to-door seller, you need to get everything in writing including price, warranty and all conditions. You must also ask for business cards and other contact information.
